Jacqueline Mannering is one of the world's most famous guitarists.
If you haven't heard of her, don't worry, it's probably just because you haven't been looking in the right places, and perhaps you’ve never witnessed the art of Guitar Shredding!
Jacqueline, from East London, posted her first guitar playing video – a solo version of the classical/rock standard, 'Canon Rock' – in 2006 when she was just 14.
The sight of such a young girl playing the guitar with such speed and style immediately caught the imagination of the online community and, before long Jacqueline’s video had picked up nearly half a million views.
The success of this first video led to features in lots more online charts and Jacqueline posted more videos on YouTube featuring her solo guitar playing – mostly recorded at home with a simple webcam.
The views mounted up into the millions and, it was in 2009 that one of Jacqueline's videos was seen by Barry M. Although we loved her guitar playing, it was Jacqueline's great gothic 'look' that also caught our eye.
And so, to cut a long story short we got in touch to find that Jacqueline was already a big fan of Barry M. We thought she was a great ambassador, not just for our make up and nail varnish, but also for other young women with talent and drive.
And so, as part of our 'Make Everyday Beautiful' campaign that helps support women of ambition, we agreed to help support Jacqueline's musical career by financing time in a recording studio and making a video for one of those recordings. At this time, although millions had seen Jacqueline playing guitar, no one had heard her sing, (or even speak!), and certainly no one knew she could write songs!
She can! 'Raining' was the first song written by Jacqueline during these recording sessions and the video was shot in Brighton during Spring. Importantly, Barry M made no stipulations for the the song or the video – our intention is to support and further the career of someone who uses and loves our products, rather than simply finding someone to promote our make up!
We did, of course, provide all the fabulous make up for Jacqueline to use of course so, we hope, everyone wins! :-)
